The Coastguard Lookout Station was built in 1906 as the Marconi Wireless Station which played a prominent part for intelligence during the First World War by intercepting German radio transmissions and tracing the German fleet. The Second World War saw the building continue as a signal station and was visited by his Majesty King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1943, together with Princesses Elizabeth (Queen Elizabeth II) and Margaret, they signed their royal insignias in the coastguard's log book. There is a commemorative plaque on the building. In 1976 it became a maritime museum eventually closing. New owners carefully restored the building leaving the original features in place.
