If you are looking to explore beautiful North Norfolk without actually being on the coast, then this property is for you. Wensum House Annexe Plus is part of Wensum House with self-contained four bedroom accommodation in a village setting and offers a cosy retreat at any time of year for one or two families.
The house is over 300 years old and is a Grade II Listed Building. In 1905, it was home to Father Gray, a Roman Catholic priest who was given permission by the Bishop to say Mass in the house as there was no Catholic church in Fakenham at that time. A stained glass window can be seen in the Annexe from Back Street, this was the confessional – now rather ignominiously the toilet! A few years later George Edwards, a young farm lad who went on to become a Labour MP and was knighted by King George V in 1930, lived in Wensum House and ran the ‘National Agricultural Labourers’ and Rural Workers’ Union from here.
There are some lovely walks in the surrounding area and a village pub, duck pond and children’s play area on the Common only a minutes wak down the road. Fakenham town centre is a five minute walk and has a choice of shops, pubs, cinema, and garden nursery. Thursday is very popular for its market and auction, and a day at Fakenham Races (horse racing and sometimes camel racing!) should not be missed. Holkham and Houghton Halls, Sandringham House, and Wells-next-the-Sea are within easy driving distance. Sculthorpe Moor and Pensthorpe Nature Reserves are less than a 10 minute drive – perfect for nature lovers – and the Norfolk Broads and Norwich are both easily accessible - about a 40 minute drive. The Hanseatic port of King’s Lynn and the coast at Hunstanton are 30 minutes by car. We are sure that guests will want to spend most of their days exploring this interesting part of Norfolk - and this village is ideally situated to explore all directions.
Quirky, quaint and hidden away, the property is comfortably furnished with modern amenities and has a very small front courtyard catching the late afternoon sun, suitable for seating 4. It is one of our surprisingly spacious ‘Tardis’ properties being a lot more roomy once you open the door:
